Creativity and consistency is key in the music world… Well at least for the artists that are making it happen today. One of those artists is David E Beats. Emcee, producer, guitarist, and just an all around amazing musician that can rock a crowd with his mic and guitar in hand. From DC to NY he has been pushing on with his music career taking down every obstacle. We managed to catch up with him and get some words in after all of the SXSW (South By South West) madness down in Texas, which he has performed at, even with his back to back show lineups. This young musician’s drive is unstoppable, let us make you familiar with him.

JGM: Introduce yourself to the people. Who is David E Beats?

D.E.B: David E Beats is a big bowl of dopesauce that not only raps, but plays guitar, and puts on the best live show in NYC!

JGM: We know you rap, but where does the Beat part of your name come from? Do you produce as well?

D.E.B: Yes, I produce and write all of my music as well. I was known as David E in DC, but when I started to make beats everyone called me David E Beats! It stuck, and I thought it was cool, so I still use it!

JGM: How did you hear about SXSW, and how does it feel to be there? Do you
remember your first show? How does it feel to perform in Texas?

D.E.B: I heard about it when I was put on the bill for the 16th at the Roxy
Theater in TX. It was a great time, great city, a real music town. The
vintage guitar shop there had so many rare pedals and amps and guitars
I’d never seen! The networking was great and venue was huge, and my
set was great as well! An overall great experience!

JGM: What shows did you have lined up down there?

D.E.B: March 16th at the Roxy Theater at 4:20 PM, along with Shinobi Ninja,
Strait Laces, JADA, and many more talented artists!

JGM: What makes you different from other artists down there? What do you
bring to the table?

D.E.B: The ability to rap and play guitar and actually solo! I went down
there on my own, minus the band, and gave a very stripped down
performance that the crowd loved! It not only made me stand out, it
made a lot of people interested in the full band experience!

JGM: Nowadays everyone is a rapper, how hard is it to be noticed as a great musician yourself?

D.E.B: The best way to be noticed as great in anything is to totally be
yourself, and come up with an original style that is hard to imitate.
Always stay in your lane and just continue to make original and
amazing music!

JGM: What do you plan on doing now that SXSW is over and you’re back in NY?

D.E.B: Back to the shows and recording. I have the Bushwick DIY Festival, a
few clubs, going to Paris to shoot the next video, then coming back and recording the album at Rumpus Room Studios in BK, home to Cantora Records.

JGM: What is 1 quote that you live by?

D.E.B: Everyday I wake up and say: ” How can I attack today? What can I do
better today? How can I be GREAT?”

JGM: We wish you much success in your career, keep doing your thing David!
What words do you have for your supporters?

D.E.B: Stay dopesauce!
