Recently seen on the UK’s Channel 4 music program Evo Music Rooms, Shadez The Misfit is pushing the boundaries with his innovative outlook on life that shines through in his music. This Misfit has been ticking boxes in the past few months, meeting with some of the music industry’s in-crowd, such Drake and Kelly Rowland. He’s also been working on dropping his next single and developing a new mixtape. To say the sky is the limit for this South London native is an understatement; Shadez is on a quest to the stars and beyond, and we were lucky enough to catch a few words with him to get an idea of where he draws his inspiration and what we can expect from him in the near future.

JGM: Break it down for us, who is Shadez The Misfit? Where did you grow up, and what did you want to do with your life when you were young?

SHADEZ: Shadez The Misfit is a experimental music artist who takes his influences from many genres, mainly hip hop and indie, to create a eargasm of music from the mind of a misfit, haha! I basically create music that gives you an insight of me, my interests, my thoughts, and my creativity. I’m from South London, and when I was young I always wanted to be creative; I always loved inventing my own things. I think thats where my concept first started. I always loved music, as through music was my way of venting.

JGM: Tell us about your music

SHADEZ: My music is like a piece of me, I’ve always been raised to be a leader and I never wanted to do what has already been done. I love music and wanted to create music with the things that inspire me. My music consists of thought provoking lyrics formed over well composed music, futuristic beats with a hint of live instrumentation. For me, it’s expressing music from my view so you’re hearing me, but you’re also hearing the genres that influence me.

JGM: You’ve worked a bit in fashion, what kind of stuff where you doing?

SHADEZ: I was doing a lot of casual wear and mens wear before music. I did a short course at London College of Fashion and worked closely with a lot of clothing lines. I’m currently doing a clothing line with a team of talented individuals; the clothing is called ‘Sweetspace 9 ‘ and brings clothing to another level.. Been working really hard towards it and looking forward to showing it to the world !

JGM: We saw you on Evo Music Rooms! What was that like as an experience?

SHADEZ: The experience with Channel 4′s Evo Music Rooms was indescribable. Being chosen by Channel 4 as one of the best unsigned acts in the UK and having the chance to perform with some of the music greats was just crazy. For me I feel that whole week out doing the show was the best week of my music career so far as I produced music at such a high calibre. Being able to work with people who have paved the way for legends you listen to and knowing they want to see you do well is a great feeling, you could definitely feel it in my final performance and the crowd’s response.

JGM: We won’t lie, we’ve been following you… tell us about meeting Drake and Kelly Rowland? What were they like in person? Have any master plans of working with these two big names in the near future?

SHADEZ: Getting to meet Drake and Kelly Rowland was crazy. You see them all the time in the media and on TV, but in real life, and getting to sit down with them is even more surreal. Truthfully, they’re just normal human beings and meeting them made me realize that. It was fun meeting Drake, I respect him a lot musically and just his values as an artist; he can relate to people, and for a new artist that’s something that they should aim to do with their music. Kelly Rowland is lovely and stunning in real life. In regards to plans working with them – I guess you have to follow the Misfit’s journey to the stars!

JGM: Okay so, if you could go anywhere in the world with any person in the world, where would you go and who would you take?

SHADES: If I could go anywhere with any person? Tough… If I could go anywhere, I would love to go to the moon and take all the people who have contributed to my life so far and just have a crazy concert! If I can’t do that, I would love to meet God in heaven and ask him so many questions.

JGM: Where do you get your creative inspiration? Who do you look up to as an artist?

SHADEZ: I get my creativity from a lot of things: art, fashion, music, life, but mainly anyone who is willing to push the boundaries in the profession they are in. I’ve always loved the Willy Wonka character and persona, though he was a fictional character, his concepts were so wacky that they were believable. I believe anything is possible and I’m thankful that God has given me the means to bring creativity to everything I do.

JGM: We see a lot of your “Misfit Moment’s” on twitter, where do they come from?

SHADEZ: Misfit Moments are just random thoughts on my mind at that particular time. They give you a insight into how I’m feeling, but at the same time it’s advice ….The quotes are an inspiration, comments on things around me, situations I have been through in life – the moments just give you a piece of me.

JGM: Alright, so what can we expect from Shadez The Misfit in the coming months?

SHADEZ: Expect more music from The Misfit. I’m in preparation for the first official single and getting this promo/ mixtape out. I’m going to be performing at a few major venues and concentrating on the misfit music overall.

JGM: Any final words?

SHADEZ: I want to firstly thank you, Kayta for this interview :) and to all who have been supporting me – thank you so far and I have a lot in store for you!
