The Evolution Of The Internet Pt.2

The evolution of the internet is happening right now as I type and in more than the one way, as previously written about. Roto Meier, a software developer who has been involved in Android since the initial release in 2007, as well as being an Android Developer Advocate at Google, recently gave an interview as to where the future of mobile is going. He predicts that “connectivity will become ubiquitous” within 20 years.  Meaning that being connected to the internet will be constant, uninterrupted, and everywhere.

“1 year – 3G/4G and WiFi covers most of industrial world. Every mobile device comes with an unlimited (or high-cap) data plan. Mobiles start interacting with other consumer electronics and cars.
5 years – 4G/5G and WiFi extend to cover the entire developing world.
10 years – White spaces or similar technology means everyone everywhere is connected at all times.
20 years – Connectivity is uninterrupted and ubiquitous. Losing connectivity is like losing power or running water.”

The NY Times just came out with an article stating that “F.C.C. Likely to Open Airwaves to Wireless.” What this means is that “the F.C.C. is likely to approve what could be an even bigger expansion of the unlicensed airwaves, opening the door to supercharged Wi-Fi networks that will do away with the need to find a wireless hot spot and will provide the scaffolding for new applications that are not yet imagined.”

Surprisingly now another NY Times article comes out stating that, “E.U. to Back Plan for Pan-European Mobile Market.” The European Commission wants to back a plan that would “divert a portion of the valuable broadcast spectrum used by television stations to mobile operators by 2013, in a bid to create an European Union-wide market for wireless broadband services.”

So far a few of Roto Meier’s predictions are coming true; this will undoubtedly change our society. This is just another step towards the evolution of the internet.
