Growing up the 42nd street I knew had arcades like Broadway and Barcode, I remember going there for cheesy movie dates. Girls would get their pictures drawn by an artist on the street, Mc Donald’s would be the chill spot to talk to girls in. It was a fun time, this was from ’99 – ’06. I always heard stories about Times Square in the 80′s, how it was corrupted with crime, drugs and prostitution. I could never imagine that today because of how commercial it looks, Photographer Bill Butterworth brought the vision to life for me today with his raw photos of 42nd street in the 80′s. They show pimps, prostitutes and b-boys and porn shops . He has a new book coming out called “The Forty-Deuce” check it out.
