Recap: Awol Erizku @ Hasted Kraeutler GalleryEvents — By JGM Staff on June 16, 2012 at 7:25 pm
We were very excited and anxious to attend Awol’s solo show last Thursday, he has been in the process of gathering the most appealing and sharp photos for this exhibit. We must say it was a great opening show for the young American artist/ photographer Awol Erizku at the Hasted Kraeutler Gallery where his large scale portraits hung beautifully in front of his huge audience, this might have been his biggest show up to date. The portraits had solid black backgrounds and showcased young African Americans in a sincere form, the black background served as a concentration to capture their persona and innocence. The portraits spoke out loud and fused urban style with sophisticated taste. Recording artist Melo-X gave the crowd something to vibe to with his slick MPC and mic skills, it was such a awesome turn out for the young artist.
