Now we’ve already showed you Stanley Kubric‘s 1940′s photo set of NYC, and we just put out Steven Siegel‘s 1980′s photo set which was in color. Now take a look at photographer Frank Oscar Larson’ s work, documented life on the streets of New York during the ’50s. The banker-turned-amateur photographer shot in his spare time and developed his photos in his basement darkroom in Flushing. Larson was an avid, empathetic observer of the life of the streets, and in his eyes, the mundane becomes miraculous. He was able to achieve a great intimacy and immediacy taking unguarded, candid shots. Honouring the work of Frank Oscar Larson, a selection of these images will be on display at the Queens Museum in an exhibition running from February 5th to May 20th.

But no matter what the city of New York will never lose it’s raw street character. Photographer, Steven Siegel has been documenting all five of New York’s boroughs for the past three decades. Here we get a look at some of his images from 1980′s New York, which gives us a glimpse into how gritty, and otherwordly the Big Apple seems compared to the Disney-esque New York of today. Even though these photos are about o years old, you can still tell where in New York the picture was taken, like the train station picture on Houston Street, still looks the same til this day, just upgraded a little more. Bushwick back then looked like a post-apocalyptic dystopia filled with abandoned lots, crumbling buildings, dismantled cars, and an occasional passerby.

Check out more images after the jump and let us know which New York you’d rather live in.

” The digital revolution of the last decade has unleashed creativity and talent in an unprecedented way, with unlimited opportunities.
But does democratized culture mean better art or is true talent instead drowned out? This is the question addressed by PressPausePlay, a documentary film containing interviews with some of the world’s most influential creators of the digital era

Filmmakers David Dworsky and Victor Köhler explore the current environment of music and film in their documentary, PressPausePlay. The film features dialogue from a wide variety of creative people such as Moby, Hot Chip, Robyn, media pundits, writers, and even basement film and music makers. The documentary accurately depicts the perspective and artistic mind set of our generation of creators. Expressing many thought provoking and contrasting ideas, the documentary provides alternative views of the current state of music, film, and it’s impact on our culture.

Gaining instant notoriety by ruthlessly tagging luxury brand stores such as YSL, Louis Vuitton, Colette and Supreme, Kidult has stirred up controversy about his motives and intentions behind such acts.

In two parts, the videos show Kidult in an altered voice giving his opinions on what graffiti should be while shocking images of war and famine flash on. It almost seems like a mindless film for propaganda.

Kidult stirred up more controversy recently by selling T-shirts through his site, when he has made it no secret that one of his beliefs is that graffiti has been used commercially purely for monetary gain. Irony? You decide.
