We  previously told you about the brand new sneaker company C.A.N.V.A.S (CAN Visually Achieve Success) founded by Nick Cannon and his wife Mariah Carey, it is a project that’s set out to empower youth and young adults across the world.  C.A.N.V.A.S shoes are one of a kind, decorated with abstract versions of the primary colors.

With the company taking off strong they have just thrown a decked out Gala event at the Opera Gallery in NYC this past Friday. Many talented artists and influencers were in the building to support Project C.A.N.V.A.S, stars from Mr. Brainwash to Ellen DeGeneres donated their painted shoes to the space. It was an event to help support the creative arts program itself and to help build self-esteem and nurture optimism amongst youths.  Auctioned off was a very rare time piece from the prestige Swiss watch company Audemars Piguet that went for 22,000 dollars, big money was in the house that night, we got a chance to experience it all, check the photos below.

Legendary graffiti Spot 5ptz aka “The Mecca of graffiti” for NY is celebrating 10 years strong this Saturday May 5th. It was said last year that the 200,000 square foot graffiti landmark would be closing it’s doors, up until further notice 5ptz will continue to rock out and hold it down for NY graffiti. This “re-opening” event will contain all of the elements that surround graffiti like, emceeing, break dancing, DJ’ing and of course live painting. 5Ptz also has some new merch to give out as well,  come be apart of history.

“5pointz Aerosol Art Center, Inc. is an outdoor art exhibit space in Long Island City, NY. Considered to be the world’s “graffiti mecca,” aerosol artists from around the globe paint colorful pieces on a 200,000 sq. foot factory building. The name 5pointz signifies the 5 boroughs coming together as 1. With its reputation as an epicenter of the graffiti scene, this industrial complex has united aerosol artists from Canada, Switzerland, Holland, Japan, Brazil, France, Australia, Spain, Germany, Italy and all over the USA. This amazing organization, founded and run by Meres One since 2002, exists as a result of the grace, time and energy of its volunteers.

2012 celebrates the 10 year anniversary of 5pointz. More than ever, the organization welcomes artists from all over the globe while giving back to the people by throwing events showcasing every element of the Hip Hop Culture.

All proceeds collected this evening will help to purchase the necessary materials to fix the walls acting as a canvas to so many artists for all seasons to come. 5pointz welcomes donations of materials from paint to prime the walls, to wood, tools and the services of skilled carpenters to prepare for the re-opening.

This Friday, April 27th Bronx Museum of art is holding another great Bronx Stories event series. Bronx Stories celebrates Poetry Month with special performances by C Debra Thomas, Michelle Tokarczyk, and Angelo Zeolla. It will also be hosted by Hispanic poet and musician Caridad de la Luz (La Bruja). They will be sharing stories and poems about the Bronx as well as their perspectives on selected artworks in the exhibitions Urban Archives: Emilio Sanchez in the Bronx and Juan Downey: The Invisible Architect. Nothing like going to the super market on a sunny Saturday in NYC, beautiful women, cool vibes and fresh finds. This past weekend The Tafari brand joined their first Super Market NYC sale in Nolita, the boys didn’t bring any food this time around like at the Vegan Shop Up, just plenty of apparel like the Eco Lightweight hoodie NFL star Tim Tebow wore to a recent press conference. A new and exciting shoe has stepped into the market, finally debuting after much anticipation, C.A.N.V.A.S (Can Visually Achieve Success). The make up of the shoe is mostly canvas material with a three basic color platform which you have the power to customize your own. Designer Craig Howard had a vision that expressed individuality and creativity put into one  shoe with a vibrant, yet simplistic aesthetic that serves as a base for art, culture, and fashion to be expressed in a unique form that is accessible to all. We attended the release event last night,  special quest DJ Nick Cannon came and spun.

On April 13th, the Bronx Museum of the Arts will hold a special free month-long exhibition featuring photos, memorabilia and lectures for New York Yankee fans. 161st Street Business Improvement District executive director, Cary Goodman who is co-sponsoring the event said, “When you think of baseball, you should think of the Bronx,” so what a perfect idea to bring baseballs most memorable golden age to where history was made.  The exhibit will include Elston Howard,  Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and many more. Also as an appreciation to the many visitors of the BXMA, for their 40th anniversary they will no longer charge for entry for any exhibits. So make sure you come check out his wonderful exhibit!

Yesterday The Beats By Dre store in Soho,NY was flooded for their pop up event with the Violette clothing brand headlined by director/designer Vashtie Kola. The event celebrated the collaboration between the two brands that dropped a limited edition pair of Custom Taxi NYC studio headphones designed by Violette New York (See picture above). Rocafella Records engineer Yung Guru and Jasmin Solano provided the music for the packed out event, Hennessy and Heineken kept the drinks flowing all night. If you’d like to purchase the limited headset, they are retail for $399.95 at the Beats By Dre Store in Soho.

The collective graffiti artists UR New York recently premiered their art exhibit “Breaking & Entering” in their hometown at Pop Gallery. Breaking & Entering first debuted at Art Basel in Miami Beach, it’s based on  their vision of the streets of  NYC. The show is a mix of photography, silk-screen, graphic design, and graffiti all in one. They have creatively blended a lot of  the city’s elements and turned them into pieces of art that tell stories based on their experiences in life. Ever since their big success in Miami they returned to NYC and worked hard to produce pieces for the gallery. The exhibition will be up from march 22nd throughout mid April at the Pop Gallery on 473 West Broadway New York, Ny 10012.
